A legendary retreat for artists, poets,
and composers seeking inspiration in its sublime beauty,
the Amalfi Coast is a natural setting to explore the visual
arts.
For centuries, the sweeping coastlines
and rocky cliffs have drawn painters eager to capture the
breathtaking landscapes. Ceramics artists have also flocked
here as the town of Vietri sul Mare, where the festival
is based, has been one of Italy’s most important ceramics
centers since medieval times.
The Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival
invites students and artists to explore the artistic traditions
of the area while embarking on an intensive course of study
in ceramics, painting, photography
or mixed media. Classes are taught by instructors
who are prominent faculty members of the Corcoran College
of Art & Design, the art school affiliated with the
Corcoran Museum in Washington, D.C. and other artists from
around the country.

The Art Program is designed to take advantage of the cultural riches
in the area. Students will tour an array of museums and architectural treasures
in Naples, visit the magnificently preserved Greek temples of Paestum, and explore
the haunting ruins of Pompeii. Instructors will bring perspectives gained back
into the classroom. Students will also be invited to visit local studios and meet
Italian artists to exchange ideas and share techniques. There will be an exhibit
of selected participants’ work at the end of the session.
