Faculty Biographies - William Willis  

William Willis
Drawing & Painting

William Willis was born in Sheffield, Alabama and received his BA and MFA from the University of South Florida, Tampa. After teaching at the University of Maryland, College Park, Mr. Willis went on to join the Fine Arts faculty at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., where he has taught painting since 1985. Mr. Willis's work has been shown in selected solo exhibitions at the Howard-Scott/M-13 Gallery in Manhattan, the Hemphill Fine Arts Gallery in Washington DC, the Baumgartner Galleries in Washington, DC, the Littlejohn/Sternau Gallery in New York, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and the Rosa Esman Gallery in New York, NY.  HIs work has also appeared in group exhibitions at the Corcoran Museum of Art and Signal 66 Gallery, both in Washington, DC, and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, Connecticut in addition to Maryland Arts Place in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Mr. Willis has received awards from the President's Fellowship Commission, the Vermont Studio Center as well as grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York, the Award-in the Visual Arts SECCA, Winston-Salem, NC, and the National Endowment for the Arts
