Claudia Smigrod
The Photographic Journal

Claudia Smigrod is an Associate Professor of Photography at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, D.C. She received her M.F.A. in Photography from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1978, and her B.F.A. in Photography from the College of Ceramics for the State of New York at Alfred University in 1971. She received the Individual Artist’s Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, Richmond, Virginia in 1989 and has had numerous exhibitions, both in the United States and Europe.

Her work is included in many public and private collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Polaroid Collection, The Chrysler Museum, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, United States Information Agency, and Georgia Power, among others. Her work is currently on exhibit at the newly reopened Smithsonian American Art Museum, The American Experience exhibition, in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Smigrod was born in New York City and is currently residing in Cortona, Italy; where she a Visiting Professor for the Studies Abroad Program, The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. Ms. Smigrod has also been a Visiting Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College, teaching a course in Alternative Photographic Processes.
