Nancy Stagnitta
Flute

Acclaimed soloist, guest lecturer and jazz flutist, Nancy Stagnitta has been praised for her "brilliance and beauty of tone" by The Baltimore Sun . Appointed as U.S.I.A. Artistic Ambassador to southern Africa, she presented concerts and masterclasses in Angola, Botswana, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique and Namibia. She has also performed at the Biblioteca Universitaria di Napoli and the Duomo Sant'Andrea in Italy, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and on the Voice of America Broadcast Network.   She appeared as concerto soloist with the National Gallery Orchestra in Washington, D.C. and the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, and regularly performs with the Baltimore Symphony and Baltimore Opera Orchestras.

Piccoloist with the Sarasota Opera Orchestra from 2000 to 2004, she has also performed with the Key West Symphony and the Washington Contemporary Music Forum.  She appeared as soloist with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic after winning that orchestra's Virtuoso-in-Progress Concerto Competition in her native state of New York, and was a semi-finalist in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition. A two-time recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council Solo Artist Award, she has been heard in performance on NPR's WETA in Washington, D.C.; WBJC in Baltimore, MD; WRMC in Middlebury, VT and on Interlochen Public Radio.   She recently presented masterclasses at the University of Arizona, Butler University, Bowling Green State University, the Flute Festival Mid-South, and the Texas Music Educators' Association Conference.

Equally active in the realm of jazz, Ms. Stagnitta has been featured as a jazz flutist in Maryland Musician magazine, and was selected as a finalist for the U.S. Information Agency/Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador program for two consecutive years. NPR describes her CD entitled Joy of My Life as "bringing forth beauty that leaves one breathless."  She was invited to perform as both classical soloist and featured jazz artist at the National Flute Conventions held in New York City, San Diego and Washington, D.C, and at the Sarasota Jazz Festival. Her versatility has led to appearances with artists as diverse as Jean-Pierre Rampal, Renee Flemming, Jose Carreras, Rosemary Clooney, Vince Gill, Roger Daltry and Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson. 

Ms. Stagnitta currently serves as Instructor of Flute at Interlochen Arts Academy, Artist/Faculty at Grand Valley State University, and principal flutist with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. She earned the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Music from the Peabody Institute, where she received the Ashworth Prize. Her teachers include Robert Willoughby and Tim Day.
