Voice
 Jennifer Matthews maintains an active career as vocal coach and collaborative
pianist, adjudicator and workshop clinician. Dr. Matthews has served on the faculty
of The University of Western Ontario, as well as Hunter College, City University
of New York as lecturer, collaborative pianist and vocal coach for the opera program
and at the Mannes School of Music as collaborative pianist. After completing her
Doctorate of Music Performance in Opera Studies and Conducting from McGill University
in Montreal, Dr. Matthews remained at McGill as musical assistant to Maestri Julian
Watcher and Alexis Hauser for ‘Opera McGill’. During this time she
oversaw the main stage production of Mozart’s Idomeno, Harry Sommer’s
Louis Riel and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
Dr. Matthews also presents masterclasses on the ‘Art of Auditioning’
as well as on the ‘Italian Bel Canto School’. She maintains an active
career as recitalist being heard frequently on CBC Radio, and with Sacred Music
in a Sacred Space in New York.
In the fall of 2007, Dr. Matthews will be returning to Hunter College, City University
of New York where she will teach Lyric Diction, Class Voice, Vocal Styles and
Conventions as well as co-director of the Hunter Opera Project. 2008 marks Jennifer’s
third summer with the Amalfi Coast Music Festival & Institute.
