Fredrick Martell has sung with the Orlando, Columbus (OH),
Manchester, Ancourage, Syracuse, Gulf Coast, New Orleans,
and Nassau Symphonies, The Hudson valley Philharmonic, Greenwich
Village and St. Luke's Orchestras, Rollins College Bach Festival,
Tampa and Westfield Oratorio Societies, Middletown choral
society, Opera Orchestra of New York, Collegiate Chorale and
the New Jersey Pro Arte Chorale. A veteran of opera, oratorio
and recital, Mr. Martell's repertory includes Faust, Tosca,
Madama Butterfly, Salome, Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah,
Rossini's Stabat Mater, Messiah, Mahler's Eighth Symphony,
and Puccini's Messa di Gloria among many others.
Mr. Martell made his European operatic debut in 1994 in the
world premiere of Tania Leon's Scourge of Hyacinths in Munich.
He returned to Europe to sing Porgy and Bess at the Bregenzer
Festspiele in Austria with Andrew Litton Conducting the Vienna
Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by a performance in
the Proms Concert Series with the BBC Symphony at the Royal
Albert Hall in London. He also sang the tenor part in performances
of Verdi's Requiem in Vienna, Overwart, and Eisenstadt, Austria,
and later sang performances of Porgy and Bess with the San
Carlos Opera and the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa in
Lisbon, Portugal.
A Native of Arkansas, Mr. Martell received a Bachelor of Music
from Murray State University and completed graduate studies
at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He has
been on the voice faculty of UCONN at Storrs, University of
South Florida in Tampa, University of Central Florida in Orlando,
Sarah Lawrence College, University of Northern Colorado, Wesleyan
University, John Jay College, C.W. Post College of the Long
Island University. He is a teaching Associate at Hunter College
and in the Summer of 2006, was on the teaching faculty of
the Bel Canto Institute's Summer Program in Florence, Italy.
In July of 2007 he will join the faculty of the Amalfi Coast
Music Festival and Institute, also in Italy.
