 The
Amalfi Coast Music Festival & Institute
is pleased to welcome baritone
Peter Barton as Director of the Vocal Program. As a singer,
Mr. Barton has appeared with the Amalfi Coast Music Festival
as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello in
La Bohème, and Germont in La Traviata.
Mr.
Barton trained in opera, music and drama at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Texas
at Austin. He has been involved in recital work, musical theater
and opera in the Washington DC area for over 20 years. He
performed with the Washington Opera Society for five seasons,
the Maryland Opera for three seasons and has given numerous
recitals. Major roles include: Germont in La Traviata,
Figaro in Barbiere di Siviglia, Malatesta
in Don Pasquale, Marcello in La Bohème,
Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Ravenal in
Showboat, Tommy in Brigadoon, Billy Bigelow
in Carousel and the Pirate King in Pirates of
Penzance .
In the
business, technology and finance world, Peter has extensive
experience in the private, non-profit and government arenas.
He has worked for the Big Six, as a manager with Price Waterhouse
in their Financial Services practice; the Banking industry
with Fannie Mae, Riggs Bank and The Export Import Bank of
the U.S.; the non-profit sector with The George Washington
University where he is currently Manager of their Data Warehouse
initiative and Georgetown University where he directed all
performing arts programs and taught classes in vocal performance
and theater. He was instrumental in establishing an Artist
in Residence program, which brought prominent musicians and
artists to the university community.
