Sharon Starling
Program Director - Choral Arts Program

Sharon Starling (soprano and choral director) has lived a life filled with music. She is a native of the Washington D.C. area and has been performing locally since high school as both a vocalist and choral director. Ms. Starling performs her cabaret show “Brief Encounters tm” in many venues locally and nationally including the Terrace Theatre at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. She has collaborated and performed with Dr. Gerald Muller (Amalfi Coast Music Festival Faculty ) for the past 15 years. She began her affiliation with the Amalfi Coast Festival in 2006 as the Director of the inaugural Festival Chorus.

Ms. Starling is the founder and director of development of the Shalom School After School for the Arts, Inc., an after-school arts education program designed and established to provide students an opportunity to study the arts in a nurturing and accepting environment.

After serving as Music Director at First United Methodist for 10 years she is now the music director at Colesville United Methodist Church, Silver Spring, Md. Additionally she holds a position on the Music faculty of St. Joseph's School in Beltsville, Maryland. She has directed the Chancel Choir in concert performances at The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., the Washington National Cathedral, and the Kennedy Center.

In addition to performing and directing Ms. Starling has been involved in arts management for various arts organizations. She is one of the founders of the Voices XXI professional choral ensemble. Ms. Starling was awarded the annual "Reach Out Award" for leadership in the arts and revitalization by the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation of Hyattsville, Maryland. She has also been the recipient of awards and recognition from The United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries for her achievements in the development and implementation of the Shalom School for the Arts.

Ms. Starling received a B.S. in vocal music/education from the University of Maryland at College Park.
